چکیده

The chiral and heavy quark symmetries of QCD are reviewed. These symmetries are used to predict some low–momentum properties of hadrons containing a single heavy quark. ⋆ Work supported in part by the U.S. Dept. of Energy under Grant no. DE-FG03-92-ER 40701.

We report on recent advances in the understanding of hadrons containing one heavy quark, providing a general introduction to the main ideas behind the heavy quark symmetry. We concentrate on the synthesis of heavy quark and chiral symmetries, describing recent calculations of heavy meson and baryon decays through processes involving strong, electromagnetic and semileptonic weak interactions.

EFFECTIVE LAGRANGIAN FOR B and D SEMILEPTONIC DECAYS

An effective lagrangian incorporating both chiral and heavy quark symmetries and describing the low momentum interactions of heavy mesons and light scalar and vector resonances is presented. Using some available data and assuming nearest pole dominance for the form factors we can calculate, at the leading order in chiral and heavy quark expansion, semileptonic B and D decays into light mesons.
